Event Diaries: Back-to-School Picnic & Paddle

Recently, we hosted our annual Back-to-School Picnic and Paddle at the Cherry Creek State Park. We were excited to kick off the new school year with our community and to bond over paddleboarding and eating delicious food.

We want to thank our supporters at Diversify Whitewater for sponsoring this event. Diversify Whitewater is a nonprofit organization that works to promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in paddlesports by removing the barriers that may exist for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and allies in kayaking, canoeing, rafting, and stand-up paddleboarding. The event was especially meaningful knowing that our close partnership promoted the missions of both our organizations. Thank you to the Diversify Whitewater team for your support!

While many of us enjoyed paddleboarding with friends and families, others took the time to enjoy fun conversations with new faces and furry friends. And all of us can attest–it was the perfect weather for a day at the lake!

Lunch was catered by our friends at Pho King Rapidos. We relished the delicious menu– pho and veggie banh mi sandwiches, cheeseburger rolls, chicken over rice, egg rolls, crispy shrimp, and black sesame rice crackers. We devoured every last drop!

Reflections from Team AGI

Each year, we host this public event as a way to start the school year with community members. We saw new faces, families meeting each other for the first time, and people getting to know staff and volunteers. We hope everyone who came created new friendships and felt connected to our amazing AGI community.

Thank you to everyone involved for your support and enthusiasm for our events! We are looking forward to another year of impactful programming, celebrating our individual and collective power, and empowering our students.

If you weren’t able to make it and are interested in becoming a part of the Asian Girls Ignite community, please reach out to our team.
