Tea Talks Book Club Registration is NOW Open

Are you an AANHPI-identifying middle school student interested in joining a book club? You're in the right place! This virtual book club is specifically for AANHPI youth to explore their identities through AANHPI fiction.

In this club, we'll be reading short stories, poems, and pages from graphic novels. We'll also be providing materials for book club members to enjoy tea and snacks, create art, and journal together. That's why this club is called "Tea Talks" 😉

If this resonates with you, register now! These are standalone virtual meetings so you don’t have to join every single date, if you can’t!

Things to know about the club

Official Dates & Times: It is encouraged that you attend all meetings, but there is no pressure to be perfect here. Join as often as you can🙂

  • Sunday, April 21, 2-3pm

  • Sunday, May 19, 2-3pm

  • Sunday, June 16, 2-3pm

  • Sunday, July 21, 2-3pm

Location: All meetings will be virtual. I will send a google meets calendar invite to the email on this form with a link for joining each time. If you are ever unable to attend, feel free to send me an email (annab31k@gmail.com) and/or decline the calendar invite.

Reading Selections: Reading choices are in the works and will include graphic novels, short stories, and poems. I will be providing these in your tea talkkits (more details below).

Tea Talk Kits: You might be wondering, why is this book club titled "Tea Talks Book Club"? Well, I have some exciting news!! Each meeting will celebrate one reading and an accompanying activity. For these activities, I will be creating a "Tea Talk Kit" for every book club member.

  • What's in a Tea Talk Kit?  All materials for each meeting! This includes the reading, the activity materials, and some tea/snacks to go along with it👀

  • How do I get my Tea Talk Kit?  If you are attending April's Art from the Heart event for middle school students on Sunday, April 7, then you can pickup your kit there! Otherwise, we will coordinate an alternate pickup location in Denver for you, TBD.

Meeting Format: Each meeting will start with everyone getting a cup of tea! We will read together while we drink our tea and eat our snacks. Then, we'll chat a little bit and do an activity.

Notes

Registration numbers: Our target registration number for this book club is 5 kids minimum. Therefore, if we do not hit that minimum, we will not be able to have this book club. Tell your pals so they can join with you, and let's make this community happen!

Middle school requirement: If you are a high school student that is interested in joining this book club, the door is open for you too! Just let me know in the section that asks for your contact information and keep in mind that this club is designed for middle school.

Who is facilitating this book club?

My name is Annabel Kaey (she/her) and I'm a college student intern with AGI this semester. As part of my senior project for my degree in Diversity and Equity in Educational Studies, I chose to create a book club specifically for middle school students! In this club, we'll create a community together to explore our AAPI identities creatively through AAPI literature💖

The picture above is of me on a bench in a small town in Colorado during a trip I took. Everytime I travel, I love to browse the local bookstores. That smile shows how excited I am to meet you all! Woo hoo!
