ABOUT ASIAN GIRLS IGNITE

Asian Girls Ignite (AGI) is a nonprofit organization serving Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) middle and high school girls and gender-expansive youth in Colorado. Our mission is to build a strong community of AANHPI girls and women by celebrating their individual and collective power through shared stories. We believe that every girl already carries immense power and is guided by these fundamental values of courage, compassion, curiosity, and connection. Through middle school, high school, summer, and outdoor programs, students elevate their voices, explore their identities, and care for their wellbeing. We envision a world where every AANHPI girl and woman defines their own power and story.

Asian Girls Ignite’s key program components include:

  • Middle School Program: 

    • Monthly programming for students in grades 6th-8th

    • Includes community building, hands-on activities, AANHPI women storytellers from various industries.

    • Students learn to have compassion for others as they discover their own personal identities 

  • High School Program

    • Two day-long summits and one overnight retreat to engage students in relevant topics such as identity, post-secondary options, redefining leadership, navigating spaces of belonging after AGI, etc. 

    • Includes community building, hands-on activities, AANHPI women storytellers from various industries.

    • Students practice having courage by staying true to themselves and taking action to better themselves and their communities.

  • Outdoors Program

    • Year-round programming for students in grades 6th-12th

    • Includes skill-building community climbs and quarterly community events (i.e. climbing, hiking, snowshoeing, ziplining, camping, backpacking)

    • Students gain access to the outdoors while connecting with AANHPI girls and women. 

    • Addresses the importance of our physical wellness and the understanding that the outdoors is also a place where we belong. 

  • RepresentAsian Matters: 

    • Week-long summer program for students in rising grades 6th-12th

    • Explore why representation and affirmation matters

    • Embrace curiosity as students meet and hear stories from AANHPI women and share new experiences together. 


THIS POSITION’S MISSION


As the Mentorship Program Coordinator at Asian Girls Ignite, you will play a pivotal role in shaping a transformative experience for AANHPI girls and gender-expansive youth. The Mentorship Program’s mission is to support students in navigating the complexities of identity, societal pressures, and personal growth by creating a nurturing community where they can thrive. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing our Mentorship Program, including all aspects from recruitment and training to logistics and evaluation. Your organizational skills, conscientious approach, creative problem solving, and passion for working with youth will ensure that our program not only meets its goals but also fosters strong, resilient individuals. By connecting participants with AANHPI women role models, you will help them embrace their identities, overcome challenges, and become engaged citizens who contribute meaningfully to their communities.

This position is a great fit for someone who loves working with people just as much as they love the operational and logistical side of programming. This is also a supporting role to the Program Coordinator and Outdoor Program Coordinator. 

Through your work, this Mentorship Program will cultivate a generation of strong, resilient AANHPI girls and gender-expansive youth who develop a strong sense of self. By fostering meaningful connections with AANHPI women role models, participants will be equipped to overcome obstacles and embrace their identities in order to define their own paths and become engaged citizens taking meaningful action to strengthen themselves and their communities. 


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Program Design and Implementation

    • Collaborate with the Program Director to design, plan, and implement the mentorship program

    • Develop the program’s structure, including policies, procedures, and guidelines.

    • Create and apply evaluation tools to measure the program’s effectiveness

    • Track and report on program metrics, participant feedback, and outcomes.

    • Work with team to review applications and vet mentors through a standard process

    • Support with recruitment, selection, curriculum development, and budgeting for the program

    • Assist with promotion of mentorship program internally and externally to increase awareness

    • Onboard and offboard mentors and mentees, ensuring they are well-integrated into the program

  • Mentor and Mentee Support

    • Act as the primary point of contact for mentors and mentees, addressing any concerns or issues.

    • Organize and facilitate orientation sessions, training workshops, and networking events.

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with mentees, their families, and mentors, and potential mentors.

    • Foster a positive sense of belonging among participants through regular communication and engagement activities

    • Match mentors and mentees based on their profiles, needs, and goals to ensure successful partnerships.

  • Mentor Training and Development

    • Assess the needs of mentees and identify training requirements for mentors

    • Assist in developing and delivering training programs for mentors

    • Maintain a communication platform with mentors to ensure mentorship program goals are met

  • Program Improvement

    • Collaborate with a data consultant to gather, clean, and analyze data for program enhancement

    • Engage in quarterly review sessions to drive the continual improvement and growth of our impact.

  • Team-Wide Responsibilities

    • Attend team meetings, weekly manager check-ins, and an annual team retreat

    • Communicating with Marketing, Development, and other pods to align with organizational goals

    • Support with tabling at community events.

    • Meet with external partners regarding the program

  • Organizational Support

    • This could be anything from putting together furniture to grocery runs for trainings to ordering office supplies - we’re a small organization and no-one considers themselves above any kind of work. 

    • Contributing to building a strong team and culture and committing to own learning and development aligned to Asian Girls Ignite’s values

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience in program coordination, preferably in a mentorship or educational setting.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Passion for mentorship and community development.

  • Facilitated programs in youth development. 

    • Knowledgeable of event planning and management

    • Managing others and/or a team to outcomes while establishing an inclusive culture

    • Knowledge of and relationships within the Metro Denver community and/or Colorado
